Frequently Asked Questions – Selsdon Gutters

What happens if I don’t clean my gutters regularly?

Neglected gutters can lead to water overflowing onto your walls, causing damp, rot, mould growth, and even damage to your home’s foundations over time.

How do I know if my gutters are damaged or just blocked?

If your gutters are overflowing during light rain or leaking from specific points, they may be blocked. If they’re sagging, cracked or pulling away from the wall, they likely need repair.

Can you clean or repair gutters on three-storey or tall buildings?

Yes. We have access to ladders, pole systems and safety equipment that allow us to clean and repair gutters on taller homes or blocks with safe access.

What are the signs of a broken downpipe?

If water is spilling out near the base of your home, or pooling at the bottom of the downpipe rather than draining away, it may be cracked, blocked or disconnected.

Do I need to be at home while the work is carried out?

It’s ideal but not essential. If we have safe access to your gutters and clear instructions, we can complete the job while you’re out and update you afterwards.

What’s the difference between cleaning and servicing gutters?

Cleaning involves removing debris and flushing the system, while servicing includes a full inspection, minor repairs and identifying areas that may need future attention.

Do you clean conservatory and extension gutters?

Yes. We carefully clean gutters over conservatories, orangeries, and flat roof extensions using lightweight, non-invasive equipment to protect your roof.

Can damaged gutters cause internal damp?

Yes. If water runs down your walls due to faulty or overflowing gutters, it can seep into the brickwork and cause damp or mould to appear indoors.

How long do gutter repairs usually last?

If done properly, most repairs can last several years. We use quality materials and techniques to ensure long-term performance, and we guarantee our work for 12 months.

Do you use gutter vacuums or clean by hand?

We use both methods depending on access and the type of debris. In most cases, we clean by hand for precision and follow up with water flushing to check for blockages.

Are your gutter services suitable for landlords and letting agents?

Absolutely. We work with landlords, letting agents and property managers to maintain rental properties and provide reports or before-and-after photos on request.

Can I book a regular maintenance plan with Selsdon Gutters?

Yes, we offer scheduled gutter cleaning services for domestic and commercial properties. Annual or bi-annual visits help avoid problems and maintain your property year-round.

Do you work during the winter months?

Yes, we operate all year round. In fact, winter is often when problems become most obvious – such as frozen blockages or gutters strained by heavy rain and snow.

Is gutter replacement always necessary when there’s a leak?

Not at all. Many leaks are caused by worn seals or minor cracks that can be repaired easily. We only recommend replacement if repairs are no longer effective or economical.

How soon can you come out to look at a problem?

We aim to offer same-day or next-day visits for urgent issues, especially in bad weather. For routine cleaning or inspections, we’ll work around your availability.
